About

Beyond the mud was born from a desire to get out and live life to the full. We believe life happens outdoors and our aim is to help you experience outdoor adventure.

Come with us on an adventure, switch off from daily life and focus on you. Surrounded by nature our weekend breaks have been thoughtfully planned so that you don’t have to worry about a thing. From the moment you arrive at our comfortable and unique accommodation, your wellbeing is our top priority. We want to help you make memories and escape the 9 to 5 so you can focus on your own self development, whether that is improving your mountain bike skills, learning something new, like foraging or simply switching off and working on your body and mind during Pilates workshops. Our breaks harness the power of our natural environment taking you outdoors to explore and discover.

Pilates:

All our weekends include Pilates workshops surrounded by nature, our aim is to help you relax and unwind. We believe that movement in nature is the perfect antidote to modern life. We use the natural environment as a playground for Pilates, systematically designing each day so it complements the next to help create vibrant, strong, lean, happy bodies and minds that are brimming with energy and fit for purpose.

Mountain Biking:

Is there a better feeling than exploring our natural environment on two wheels? We think not! Most of our breaks include mountain biking, as passionate mountain bikers we have extensive knowledge of biking in the UK and a community of local trail guides that we work with to offer you the very best mountain biking experience. On some of our weekend breaks we also offer coaching workshops and skills sessions, led by highly qualified British Cycling coaches. Working with a coach can help every rider, no matter how experienced, improve their technique and trail flow. We want to help you develop your mountain bike skills, by spending some time on self-development which we hope will make your mountain biking more fun in the long run.

Accommodation:

We plan our trips to include outdoor adventures based from unique accommodation in the UK. Whether you are joining us for a Pilates retreat from a farm or conquering Snowdon on your mountain bike staying in a Welsh 5 star hostel, we have thought about what you may need and made sure its provided along with some added extras like, outdoor baths, cosy lounge areas for chatting about your day, quiet spaces for you to read a book, camp fires and our own private garden in which we shall be running Pilates workshops.

About Hannah:

My name is Hannah Attenburrow, I was brought up in an adventurous family on the Suffolk coast. Every school holiday I was fortunate enough to go on a new adventure, climbing in Wales, mountain biking in Slovakia, camping in France, canoeing in Canada or trekking in Tajikistan. These experiences I had as a child gave me a zest for life and a passion for the outdoors.

I studied Fashion at University before going on to a Marketing Communication masters.

It wasn’t until 2012 I was sitting watching the Olympics and was in awe of the amazing athletes racing round Hadleigh making biking look almost effortless! It was then that I decided to have a go at my first ever cross-country race. I was hooked from first entering the arena the buzz of the spectators, the friendly nature of everyone; it was a great community to be part of. I raced XC for four years working my way up to elite and competing nationally, before jumping into endurance races. Since then I have had several podiums in 12 and 24 hour races as a pair and solo. My hunger for adventure has taken me to some incredible places to race my bike in 2016 I competed with my friend Michelle in the Trans Alp Bike race from Austria to Italy a 700km point to point race where we climbed the equivalent of Everest twice. In 2018 I competed solo in the Carpathian MTB Epic an incredible race through the wild Carpathian Mountains in Romania. I have been lucky enough to ride in incredible places like Spain, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Scotland, Wales and love my home trails of the South Downs and Surrey Hills equally.

Energised by my love of cycling in 2013 I took my British Cycling Mountain Bike and Road L2 qualifications and started Pedal 2 Pedal mountain bike club for kids, which has gone from strength to strength and is the only mountain bike focused club in the South East.

I trained as a Pilates instructor after suffering from a back injury due to kitesurfing, my rehab was Pilates and it gave me back the active lifestyle I craved. I wanted to help others see and feel the benefits Pilates can make to you at any age or fitness level. I now run Pilates classes around Chichester which is where I call home.

Beyond the Mud breaks started when I was inspired by a stay in a shepherd’s hut, to start running breaks to unique accommodation, once you have seen one hotel you have seen them all right! I love the outdoors and believe time outside is vital for our well being and that getting out into nature whether that’s on my bike or just walking brings an escape from the hectic lifestyle we all seem to lead. I want my weekend breaks to be an opportunity for people to press pause, work on their self-development and have an adventure for the weekend. My aim is to ignite that adventurous spirit in all of us. Come and join in!
